Buyer Beware February 16, 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — benandsomonerock @ 9:21 pm

There are few things in this world that are a bigger deal or as stressful as planning a wedding. In this moment in time, I need to express some frustrations I have so that I can hopefully let them float away into the atmosphere… like mean little helium balloons full of worry and stomach cramps.

So all you current and future brides please heed my words when I say: “GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”. People will, either purposefully or not, screw with you and cost you more money and valuable time because they suck, I repeat SUCK! So please stop everything you are doing, go to Walmart, purchase a filing cabinet, and put every receipt, agreement, and locks of every vendors’ hair into a secured cabinet because you will probably need it.

Oh and belief me, Goldberg and Osborne aren’t going to step in and help you… it’s you being your best advocate to pry an ounce of cooperation from these individuals…. buyer beware, you’ve been warned!

It is sooooo funny that you say that. Our “place” had a coordinator we worked with, Kate. She was super for most of the 9 months….Repeatedly we talked about things, schedule for the big day etc. I said, Kate, I can’t afford ANY surprises. None. So, I checked and rechecked all of our expenses. A week before the wedding she’s like, oh ya, you have to rent that. :) And the day of she lost her brain I suppose? The dessert came out a 1/2 hour too early and she told us we couldn’t adjust the volume on the stereo. Ya, right. Good thing, our MC (who was Michael’s RA) had balls….GRRrrrrrrr. She emailed me a week later and said, let me know how you think everything went. It took me a few weeks to respond with the laundry list of balls she had dropped. I really liked her too, and I trusted her– and I told her that– and also what an absolute disappoint she was in the end.

    I feel your pain woman.

Love ya. Can’t wait to see you.

Ps- any suggestions for attire? Are we formal? semi? ahhh! can’t wait!!!

    • Hello my love! Thank you for the advice! As for attire, just in case you didn’t get my vm, I think that the dress should be pretty easy going…. not so dressed up that you’re hot when breaking it down on the dance floor…Just look like your smokin’ hot self in a cute dress or skirt or whatever you’d wear to the club :)

I cannot agree more!! What went wrong at/with my wedding:
    1) dress was wrong length – as in short by 10″, yes 10!!!
    2) wrong menu served – *and* included allergen ingredients we specifically stated we wanted no where near our food.
    3) cake wrong color, not kept chilled, water fountain display was nearly blood read, instead of lavender
    4) DJ did not come equipped with the genres of music as promised.
    5) only one “restroom” to be used by bridal party – and no outlets other than the ones near the floor in the “dressing” rooms.
    5) The videographer *never* provided a final edited product, only the unedited version *months* later (I think I was divorced before my family ever got to view it, lol.)
    6) The photographer had *no clue* – pictures were horrendous…

Oh – and a “server” dumped an entire tray of champagne glasses on a couple of guests (luckily the caterer messed this one up too and used plastic instead of glass.)

Was fiendish. Oh – and I can tell you this was not a low-budget wedding!! *sigh*

Glad to hear you are looking out ahead of time!! SOOO much can be prevented if you stay on top of things and double, triple check your services!! I am sure your wedding will be awesome!!!
